The Beatles -- on the Next Song of the Week

Have you seen the new Beatles documentary, Get Back? Thats' how I spent the last weekend: taking a trip back to a month in 1969.  I remember seeing Let it Be when I was in high school; we rented it on VHS.

That movie was sad and depressing.

This one is a joy to watch.

My friend, and singer-songwriter Tom Flannery summarizes this film so well. Read his take here.

For the Song of the Week, we are putting this album on the platter for a track that was recorded on the roof of Apple Studios. Which one? Take a listen at 11am/11pm, Eastern.

Valley Girl Soundtrack on Vinyl Voyage Radio

Finally got my White Whale!  The movie Valley Girl was unique in the early 80s -- a teen movie that respected its audience. And, a killer soundtrack to boot!

Due to licensing issues, the full soundtrack was not released int he United States. This is the version released first in Japan in 1989, and reissued in 2014. Two-discs: one white the other pink. With 25 songs. Great tunes. Great memories.

Listen on Monday, November 15 at 10am and 10pm EST to the complete soundtrack. Also available on Mixcloud!

Got some Janis on the platter....

A few days ago, I watched the documentary Festival Express. This was an amazing doc about the "Festival Express" in Canada in 1970. Instead of having one venue, concert promoters put the artists on a train and moved them from venue to venue. The film details what it was like on that train. The artists included the Grateful Dead, the Band, the Flying Burrito Brothers, and Buddy Guy.

And Janis was there. Her performances on that festival circuit were some of her last.

Today, we are playing a track from her posthumously released Pearl album. Listen on Wednesday at 11am and 11 pm, Eastern. Then throughout the week.

SOTW -- Classic KISS -- "Calling Dr. Love"

This week, we are dusting off a 1977 45 rpm record, featuring KISS and "Calling Dr. Love."

This is an original disc from my collection, purchased during my "Kiss Phase" when growing up. I had my favorite KISS character, of course. I really liked Peter Criss and drew his face everywhere. I had a Paul Stanley poster in my "area" in the crawlspace (which, incidentally, was still there when my parents moved a few years ago.)

My Junior High, in 1976, won a contests and KISS even played a show in the gym. That was a few years before I was a student there, but everybody was talking about it.

If you haven't seen the new A&E Biography special, KISStory, do it. It is a great trip down memory lane.

"Calling Dr. Love" premieres at 11am July 7, 2021 and repeats again at 11pm (Eastern). Plus, catch it throughout the week.

The Song of the Week -- "Lilywhite" by Cat Stevens

This song eluded me for a long time. That is, until I watched After Life, a series on Netflix written and directed by Ricky Gervais. He also stars as Tony, a man who is struggling with the death of his wife. This song ended Season 1, and it is now the SOTW.  Listen Wednesday, at 11am and 11pm, EST -- and throughout the week.
