Song of the Week: A Day in the Life from Sgt. Pepper 50th Aniversary Edition

"A Day in the Life" is one of the the greatest songs ever written. It brilliantly blends together two different Lennon and McCartney tunes and ends Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.  I just recently purchased the 50th Anniversary Edition on vinyl.  It was remixed from the original tapes by George Martin's son, Giles.

This, perhaps, is the way Sgt. Pepper's was meant to be heard.

You can hear this track on Vinyl Voyage Radio on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 10--am and pm, central time. Or, if you can't wait, listen to it below as it plays on the turntable.

Grab some headphones. It'll be worth it.

Song of the Week: Crystal Blue Persuasion by Tommy James and the Shondells

This is the first "official"week of summer. I know, it's probably felt like summer much longer. It's been hot here for the last month or so.

What better way to celebrate summer than with the quintessential summer song?  I'm talking of course about "Crystal Blue Persuasion" by Tommy James and the Shondells.  This song was released in 1969 and, for me, represents the essence of the late 60s.

Check out this song being played on vinyl below. Listen to the Song of the Week presentation on Vinyl Voyage Radio at 10am and 10pm (Central/ -5 GMT) on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 and throughout the week.

Song of the Week: "Why Can't I Touch You?" by Ronnie Dyson

The first time I heard this song, I thought a woman was singing. But no, it was Ronnie Dyson, one of those rarities in music who had an incredible vocal range.

Ronnie Dyson got his start at the age of 17 in the musical Hair. This is the title track from his debut album released two years later in 1970.

This song is from a musical called Salvation and is Dyson's first hit.

New episodes of the Vinyl Voyage Song of the Week can be heard every Wednesday, at 10 am and 10 pm (Central time/ -5 GMT) and at various other times during the week.

Take a listen to the song on vinyl below.

ABBA Merch Anyone?

In my copy of ABBA's Greatest Hits Vol. 2, I found this ad for ABBA merchandise. The ad also states that ABBA will be going on their first North American tour in 1979.

Man, I can sure use one of those "disco visors."
